How net metering works in Pakistan, step by step
From sanctioned load to bidirectional meter, here is exactly what happens when you apply for net metering with your DISCO.
What net metering actually is
Net metering lets your solar system export surplus units to the national grid. A bidirectional meter records both what you consume and what you send back, and your bill is settled on the net figure.
Any grid connected customer with a valid connection and adequate sanctioned load can apply. The system capacity you install is tied to that sanctioned load, so the first thing we check is your latest bill.
The application file
Your DISCO needs a complete file: application form, copy of the bill, CNIC, single line diagram, equipment datasheets and an AEDB certified installer declaration. Missing datasheets are the single most common reason files are returned.
Our engineers prepare this documentation in house so the file goes in complete the first time.
Inspection and meter installation
Once the file is accepted, the DISCO inspects the installation, verifies protections and earthing, and issues the agreement. The bidirectional meter is then installed and the system is energised for export.
Timelines vary by region, but a clean file with correct documentation moves far faster than one that keeps coming back for corrections.
